I moved to SF, accidentally became an actress, and got paid in cookunity credits

November 13, 2025

I gave myself a month to come out of retirement. Instead of spending my time job hunting, I acted in a film.

My friend drove me to drop off a standing desk. He asked if I wanted to come along to a film set where he was going to act as an extra. It's at Sutro Baths, so I thought I'd go watch the sunset and be an extra extra.

They gave me a lead role. It's a film about Adam and Eve. I played Eve — an Asian spectacled Eve.

Compensation was denominated in burritos — we were promised infinite burritos for our services.

PV=C×1erTrPV = C \times \frac{1 - e^{-rT}}{r}

Let's suppose the price of a burrito is $15 and the discount rate is r=0.05r = 0.05. If I were to order one burrito every day for the rest of my life (let's say I live another T = 75 years), then we have

PV=15×365×1e0.05×750.05=$106,927PV = 15 \times 365 \times \frac{1 - e^{-0.05\times75}}{0.05} = \$106{,}927

... assuming no inflation. Using a more conservative rate (the 30-yr TIPS yield is around 2.5%), we have

PV=15×365×1e0.025×750.025=$185,396PV = 15 \times 365 \times \frac{1 - e^{-0.025 \times 75}}{0.025} = \$185,396

That's a decent salary for two half-days of shooting!

Infinite burritos is a lot of burritos. If it were true, I'd have made it in life. Would I know what to do with myself? No. So, I converted something that was too good to be true to something that was true and good enough: I asked for 4 weeks of cookunity meals.

I had no idea what the film was about. All I knew was that I wouldn't have to kiss anyone. Now that I've read the script and we've finished the shoot, I still have no idea what the film is about.
